ARH Inc. Announces
automatic face comparison function as
part of its standard Passport Reader SDK

BUDAPEST, Hungary – ARH Inc. today announced a new function as part of its standard Passport Reader SDK:

This new function enables our system integrator partners to cross-check the holder’s photo from the datapage of an ePassport with the face photo stored in the contact less IC (chip). By the enormous spread of ePassports all around the world, there is logical need from the industry to make verification procedures at border crossing points automatic and as quick as possible. With our new function, we address this challenge and give an excellent tool without any extra cost to all our customers – said Mr. Gabor Jozsa, Sales Director of ARH’s Passport Reader and Biometrics Department.

The so-called "Face compare" software module is an own development of ARH Inc., using the company’s own face recognition algorithm. The software automatically locates the face photo on the datapage and compares it with the face photo stored in the chip (in DG2).

Using face recognition in auto e-gate systems can be considered as a must, however the e-gate integrators did not have a ready-to-use and free tool in ePassport reader’s software package so far. ARH Inc. is willing to help the e-gate industry by this development.

UV LED illuminator
for the PRMc multireader series

UV LEDs have reached that level of quality as far as brightness, reliability, lifetime and overall performance are concerned, that they could now be a reasonable alternative to professional UV tubes.

ARH's latest passport readers will be equipped with UV LEDs that will ensure lower power consumption rates and increased product lifetime for customers.

The first documents readers with UV LEDs will be available from Q3 2009. LED light sources are never supposed to be replaced during the entire lifetime of the document scanners which is one key point in the maintenance-free design concept of ARH Inc.

ARH's new Innovation Centre

Continuous growth of ARH Inc. and the increasing demand for its document readers and license plate recognition related products made it necessary to increase production capacity. In order to keep up with market demand ARH Inc. has just opened its new Innovation Centre and Factory in Perbal, Hungary.

The new facility is completely owned by ARH Inc. and ensures increased production capacity with enough place for further expansion.

SmartCard Reader option
for the PRMc multireader series

Besides contactless RFID reader module PRMc unit are now also available with contact SmartCard Reader module which is fully integrated into the document reader body.

This ensures that there will be no need for external devices, PRMc reader with SmartCard Reader and RFID options can read all electronic identity documents containing contact (ISO 7816) and/or contactless chip (ISO 14443 A/B).

Showcase of License plate recognition

The Carmen license plate recognition software engine is able to read vehicle plates from most countries of the world. In addition to its capability of reading Latin characters, the Carmen ANPR engine can read Arabic, Chinese and Cyrillic. The software can execute continuous license plate reading even at vehicle speeds of up to 250 km/h.

Keeping plates in check

Automatic license/number plate recognition (ALPR/ANPR) is a fast developing technology that has been proven very effective in many applications such as vehicular access control and speed regulation. Combining ALPR/ANPR with video surveillance is even more useful as it provides context information as evidence.

The global market for ALPR/ANPR software and integrated devices (software embedded in cameras and DVRs with onboard processing) was estimated by IMS Research to be US$119 million in 2008 and will grow to $442.9 million by 2013, at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 30 percent.
